Seiko Dive Watch Buyer’s Guide
Seiko dive watches are some of the most popular options for water sports. They have numerous choices to look through, making it a no-brainer for many people. However, they have unique aspects that can make it a bit challenging.
If you’re on the fence between a few of them or you simply have some questions that need corresponding answers, you’re in the right place. Dive into the buyer’s guide below for some of the most common FAQs!
Where is the serial number on my Seiko dive watch?
Some Seiko watches are made with a clear underside, while others have the traditional stainless steel backing as other watches. Depending on which type you’re dealing with, the serial number can be found in one of two places.
For those of you who have a Seiko watch with a clear backing, the serial number is usually stamped or engraved opposite of the Seiko lettering. This will usually be underneath the glass, but it can occasionally be found around the edges of it.
On the other hand, if you have a traditional stainless steel backing to your Seiko dive watch, then the serial number in right on the bottom. It’s either going to be in the center in bold engraved letters or around the edge, curving with the watch.
How to change a Seiko dive watch band?
Changing your Seiko dive watch band is actually much easier than you might think. All you need is a 5/64” flathead screwdriver and a little bit of elbow grease. There will be a single pin on both sides of the watch where the strap meets the display, which you can view from the underside. The pin will have a small groove for you to apply pressure with the flathead screwdriver. While you’re pushing the pin down, pull the strap away from the display.
It might take a bit of force, but you can remove it easily once you’re used to the process. Replacing it with a new band only requires you to put the pin back into the band, then you push the spring-loaded pin down while forcing the band into the display side again. That’s it!
Expert Tip
Always dry off your Seiko dive watch when you’re done using it to prevent rust, corrosion, and sticky parts.
Did You Know?
Dive watches are rated by the water pressure they can take, i.e. 200m of water. However, this doesn’t account for the pressure from water movement, such as you might experience while whitewater rafting. For this reason, many divers and people who ride the rapids always aim for a much higher rating than they’ll actually need.
A 10m rating equates to just over 30 feet, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you can dive down to 30 feet! The pressure would be too strong. For this example, you should look for a 100m watch rating.
